You can get a pair of $10 or $100 or $300. At least ten Chinese workers are making very good irons and they are very well known among Chinese leather workers. They make a large hole which is easy to get your needles through but if your goal is fine leatherwork you will probably move on to pricking iron or stitching irons. I personally use Blanchard irons but I don't think they are any better than some random $15 chinese pricking iron from ebay. There just weren't many other options when I started. Blanchard's are a bit old fashioned and they are "pricking irons" and not as good as they used to be. They are used to prick, or mark the stitching holes which need to be followed up with an awl to complete the hole. Some of the irons I have from Osborne and Joseph Dixon are a bit rough, and I would like to know an efficient way to get in between all of the teeth. The metal is pretty hard on some, I believe the Osborne irons are drop forged.
