The odds the source of the issue lies with minor configuration or compatibility errors are fairly high and rebooting the receiver can get them out of to way.

If wireless make sure the access point for the wireless boxes is plugged in and has power. Make sure the same AP is plugged in via patch cord from the AP to the AT&T gateway. You might also try to reboot the gateway itself and see if that changes the behavior your seeing.
