The Cold Forge and Into Charybdis are the best Alien novels. They are honestly better Alien stories than Prometheus and Covenant (and I liked those). Into Charybdis is probably one of my all time favorite horror novels (though should you decide to read it be aware that it is a sequel to The Cold Forge).

First, Alien and Prometheus take place on two different planets. Even though they fly off in an Engineers' ship at the end of Prometheus, it's a stretch to think that they are going to LV426 because, as we know from Aliens, "it's a rock" and they were going to find the Engineers' homeworld. It's very likely that the outcome of this conflict would tie in directly to the first movie, i.e. David would infect an Engineers with a facehugger which would crash on LV426 (creating our classic Xenomorph).Definitely an intentional design parallel. Except the space jockey in Alien was fossilized. So unless there was some kind of time travel, the one of 426 already existed and was long dead at the time of Prometheus.
