Its a great powder VERY versatile. It is made for a specific reason its a BULKY powder, initially perfect for SASS type shoots where folks wanted light loads in large cases like 44/40 & 45 Colt. In duplicating the cavalry 45/55/405 load for the H&Rs, I've found Tightgroup powder to be the most uniform powder for both ballistic uniformity and accuracy. To duplicate the 45/70/405 infantry load I like slower powders like 4759 and 4198.

When I had a 45-70, the recommended powder was 4198. 35gr gave me 1500fps with 405 LFN. The only handgun powder listed in loaddata.com was 2400 in an 1873 Trapdoor. I use Unique in my 45 Colt handloads. A lot of people post on the internet using Unique for this round, but I wouldn't. If it was safe, the data would be in the manuals.
