Aug 13, 2020 · The Ithaca Model 37 can and has served very well in the defensive shotgun role for countless police departments, and the US, Royal Thai and RVN military forces, to name a few. With a fixed cylinder bore, this shotgun has liked almost all ammunition fed to it, with the exception of some older uncrimped 3″ turkey loads.
My 37 is a "Supreme Grade" trap. It has AA grade wood which is more dense and therefore heavier than a lot of 12g 37's at 7 1/2 pounds. The stocks on these were conventional (non-montecarlo) trap stocks; 1 1/2" at comb, 1 7/8" at heel, 14 3/8" L.O.P. with the trademark Ithaca recoil pad. This gun is already cut down to a legal 18-1/2" short barrel, so original value is out the window. The finish & stock are rough at best. At first I thought the yoke was to far forward on the mag. tube not allowing the mag.cap to disengage the barrel lug. The short magazine version - How do folks attach the sling swivel mount on the mag/barrel end? Does Ithaca have a mag butt cap with swivel mounts (like you can get for 870s and 1100s)? He stated that it was dangerous to change the bolts over in such a manner. I told him that I'd like to try the S.2 barrel on the S.1 gun to see if *that* improved the extraction situation.
