You just gotta beat morgott and Melina gives u the medallion. You defeat Godfrey and Margot again at the capital and you should be able to use the great elevator to reach mountaintop of the giants after that. One half can be obtained from an optional boss in the giant mountains while the other is obtained from an npc in Liurna.You have to kill Morgott, rest at the fire, and then Melina will give you a medallion that you can use at the lift. The lift is located on the opposite end of the street from the gates with the big statues beside them.Besides you need to kill the boss in Leyndall to access the Mountain since its blocked otherwise. You can complete Leyndell. Unless you want to glitch and cheat your way past it, yes it is mandatory.
