Estoc has my favourite strong attack in the game, is reasonably powerful, quite quick, is quite long, and has all the utility that the thrusting swords have. Balder side sword is probably slightly better, but I think the estoc is more fun and the blocking attack can really help in a bind. To me they're about even.

If you're adept at backstabs/ripostes you probably want to go with a Magic (or Enchanted) rapier, as I hear it does more BS damage than estoc. Starting this new character, I'm rushing for the Estoc. It's amazing. It's one of if not the best weapon right now (rivaled by I believe the Sunlight Straight Sword and the Dark Sword). You have low stamina costs. A decent C/C scaling with refined. A great move set.

My guess is that the tracking somehow favors stabby weapons in laggy conditions, this doesn't apply just to Estoc but Rapier too. I'm getting nicked by katana hits that are nowhere near me all the time, doesn't matter what weapon it is. Yeah, it's not as bad as it was in vanilla Dark Souls 2 at least. The lag isn't that bad.

The Estoc 1H R2 is quite simply the best move in the game. Not only does it pierce shields, but it is extremely fast, can combo into a normal stab, and even out-ranges spears/rapier pokes. Fighting greatswords is hilariously easy when you can just stand outside the range, and counter sweep between swings.Estoc for parrying and poking, balder for the fast attack, little stamina loss and fast regeneration. Also BSS has a fast R2 speed which lets you hurt people fast. Estoc is similar and I feel it is a truly underappreciated weapon. As a side, I think it is the longest reaching thrusting sword I see now why you say the Estoc only has thrust attacks.
