I figured out a way to fix this problem in my iron farms, by building a 3x2 wall between villager and zombie, top left and right of 2x3 wall is top slabs, middle is empty, bottom 3 are solid, this way when the villagers go from bed to composters, the top slabs break line of sight temporarily, which allows a brief window for the villagers to sleep every so often …also i'm confused about your last statement --- but if you are in the nether then the spawn chunks are not loaded. at least one player needs to be in the overworld dimension in order for the spawn chunks to be loaded. 1. true. For villagers to sleep the beds need to be in a room that is 3 blocks tall, iirc. They need to be able to stand on the beds and not take damage for it to be valid. If there's a zombie, line of sight needs to be interrupted for villagers to sleep.
