If you're looking for something really low-key and cute, Picasso's in the mall complex (between Pulakos and Cold Stone) is my favorite eatery in Erie. Two hotels I'd say aren't quite as nice but are decent (not too many shady people, clean enough, etc) are LaQuinta and the Quality Inn by the casino. Worked at both, and I'd stay at them myself. Only hotel I can say to avoid without question is the Avalon. Hampton Inn & Suites on Erie Bayfront is brand new, right near the water and downtown Erie.
