DayZ mod was the reason I got into PC gaming in the first place. Most of my online friends I met through either the mod or standalone and it's always had a special place in my heart too. Kind of depressing to see previous roadmaps and realise we're not even close to seeing any of that implemented 2, 3 years later. They stay within an area provided for them. I’ve been recently been told getting arms 3 and playing DayZ through that has lots of AI and missions that work far better than the DayZ stand alone AI mod. On our server they are kinda stupid AI but the admin said if they made them any “smarter” they would head shot you on site every time.

I obviously know the technical differences between a mod and a standalone. The biggest thing for me is the movement. You have more freedom than you realize in standalone, in the mod it is a struggle to move around with precision. The mod feels more robotic, like you have to do one thing at a time.

Its better. No. My fondest memories of gaming were from DayZ Vanilla and DayZ Origins but it's simply not better. For 2017-2018 standards it's jank af, buggy, looks bad and believe it or not has less content than 0.62 except maybe basebuilding which is IMO amazing in Vanilla but just came to the game way too late (I'm not counting janky ...It falls under the massive Real Virtuality engine family, owned and developed by Bohemia Interactive - the makers of DayZ. DayZ doesnt have base building, will only have a small form of it in the future and the arma 3 mods are not very stable and just like dayz, relies on human interaction to even garner any fun from the game.. Both are gems on my opinion. Standalone, IMO is far better. Vehicles are still wonky, but there are plenty of mods and servers. Gear, guns, vehs and some maps. Easy downloading via steam workshop.
