It makes enemies like the darkwraith and even the abyss watchers pretty easy. It’s very underrated. At least 24 attunement, and at least 40/40 int faith. Highly recommend great combustion or the dark combustion. Use a Pyro hand and a shield. Combustion nukes pretty hard, you don't even need a sword.

As for weapons (just for variety - again it's possible to beat the whole game with only pyro) there aren't dedicated pyro weapons in the early game, but you can go for Hand Axe for DS1 nostalgia. In late game you have more options: Demon's Scar, Onyx Blade and Witch's Locks are all solid pyro weapons.
