Personally I ended up using some Aluminum J channel It's cheap and easy to cut to length, using pan head framing screws (normally used for steel stud) to secure them to the soffits. Looks quite good and holds the weight of the wire in between the lights. You can get this stuff at Home Depot for about $10CDN/10ft length.
