Well, we about beat the crank out of the block, but haven't broke one yet. Started out as a well used LB7, built and ran a full year at 900-1200HP and re-built it this month. When it goes into reduced engine, the ECM turns off the injector on the cylinder that is knocking, and it goes away. Guessing you can figure out which cylinder it is by turning off injectors with a scan tool.May 10, 2012 · X2. Icepick all the injector connectors, reinsulate the the FICM harness at the alternator bracket and do the DIY injector cleaning. After that, start by replacing the injector that is the worst, then check balance rates again. Ideally you would first run a compression test on any cylinders with high positive balance rates. The duramax engine has a long history of breaking cranks at that location. This is so much of a common issue that people have created cam shafts with altered firing orders to try to remove the stress from that point on the crank. Plenty of stock trucks have broken cranks like this.

Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it. You should be able to pull that off with a puller.
