I would choose CFE 223 any day of the week over Varget for 308. On my rifles both give good accuracy but what stands out to me is the lower SD, higher velocity and I can go a little longer before cleaning. I also use AR Comp for one of my bolt 308's with darn good results.
Myself I use Tac for 55 and 62 gr FMJBT's and CFE 223 for precision loads. You won't find any advantage using Tac over CFE 223 with plinking loads other than gaining experience with Tac. I also brought along some of my plinking rounds, made with Hornady bulk 55gr bullets. I took them out day and shot them at 50 yards from a bench.

That being said, in a Tikka T-3 Varmint in .223 (1-8") I have found 27gr of CFE223 and a 55gr VMax to be plenty accurate (scary accurate actually) and is just easier to load for varmints (ball powder that meters well out of a powder measure).
