The Count of Monte Cristo is hands down, one of my all time favorite books, classic or otherwise. I mean talk about a slow burn with a killer payoff at the end. The book is almost a trail of patience; righteous vengeance in the hands of fate personified, played out over 400+ pages. You may have a hard time putting it down.

The first three books of the X-Wing series covers this very nicely, and provides a great look into the military of the New Republic, and gave us some great characters.
