I kept at it and after three more kills, I completed the challenge in spite of them never seeming to count. I suggest continuing until you're positive you have reached the required number. If that doesn't work, I have no more suggestions. BTW this is still a bug, seems about every 5 I get 1. Complete garbage of a game.
