In this case then this sort of (maybe) eliminates the crankshaft position sensor but leaves a flaky/intermittent fuel pump as a possible explanation. If possible you want to when you go to start the engine try to confirm the fuel pump is running. If you go to start the engine and do not hear the pump running then that tells you something. The HVAC up front just randomly started to go from whatever speed setting it is on to where there is almost no air coming out and then back to what the setting shows, it will repeat this on and on. the back blows as it should.
